Patrick Reed has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s regular-season ending Wyndham Championship.
The tour announced Tuesday that Reed is no longer in the field at the Greensboro event. No reason was given for Reed’s exit.
Reed won his first career title on the PGA Tour at the 2013 Wyndham Championship in a playoff against Jordan Spieth, and finished T-9 at the tournament in 2020. Given his success in North Carolina, along with next week’s stop at Liberty National (where he won the 20119 Northern Trust), this was expected to be a stretch for Reed to stockpile Ryder Cup points before team automatic qualifying ends following the BMW Championship.
However, Reed had also played the last four weeks, including as a last-second Olympic alternate. At No. 22 in the FedEx Cup standings, Reed is in line for a trip to East Lake for the Tour Championship, which would have equated to two straight months of competitive play.
Reed is replaced in the Wyndham field by Josh Teater. At No. 193 in the FedEx Cup, Teater would need a win to earn a spot in the postseason.
