Tony Romo’s chip-in on his first hole (!) was the lone highlight in most recent Korn Ferry Tour start

We know Tony Romo has game. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS analyst has played in four PGA Tour events in the past four years—though he has yet to make a cut.

His path to making the cut at his most recent start in a pro event, this week’s Korn Ferry Tour Veritex Bank Championship, improved with the way he started off his round on Thursday morning. Watch the video below.

Of course, to use a football comparison, this was the equivalent of throwing for a touchdown on one of the first plays of the game. There’s a lot of ball game left, but Romo has a highlight already.

We can’t help but think of some comments Will Zalatoris made recently about Romo in an interview with the Pardon My Take podcast. Zalatoris said Romo’s short game was comparable to a tour pro—it was the driver that needs help. We saw his chipping skills on display early on Thursday.

And you know Romo will be as comfortable as he could be playing in Dallas, just a few miles down the road from the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. Perhaps this is his best chance to make a cut yet.
