Even Bernhard Langer can have a bad week.
The 64-year-old German was 63-for-63 in making the cut in major championships on the PGA Tour Champions, but the streak came to an end on Friday when Langer shot four-over-par 75 in the second round of the U.S. Senior Open, and combined with his 74 on Thursday, he missed the cut by two shots.
Regular events on the senior circuit don’t have cuts, and Langer had never failed to play on a weekend in 303 previous starts that include 43 victories. In the senior majors, the two-time Masters champion has 11 wins and 43 top-10 finishes.
This week, Langer was not his usually sharp self at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. He made only four birdies over 36 holes and suffered a triple bogey in the first round and a double in the second.
In the current season, Langer has one victory among seven top-10 finishes.
Padraig Harrington, a senior rookie this season, shot 65 on Friday to get to six under and take a one-shot lead over 2019 U.S. Senior Open champion Steve Stricker (69).
