The 5-wood that won The Open | Caddie Stories w/ Ronan Flood

Padraig Harrington’s caddie, Ronan Flood, gives an insight into what it’s like caddying for the two-time Champion Golfer of the Year and shares the story of the 137th Open at Royal Birkdale in 2008.

Like Tiger Woods two years earlier, Padraig Harrington successfully defended his title, becoming the first European to do so at The Open since James Braid in 1906.

This was a more comfortable occasion for Flood than Carnoustie after Harrington’s eagle at the 17th, thanks to a 5-wood from 272 yards to three feet. Allowing them to enjoy a celebratory walk up the 18th fairway on the way to winning by four strokes.

Our new series of Caddie Stories will bring you closer than ever before to the drama that unfolds between both player and caddie in the quest to become the Champion Golfer of the Year.
